RAS KASSA

Interview by Lud Dub
How did you establish the connection with the Marley family, and go on to direct most of their videos?
Well you know Rastafari. I am a Rastaman. Them being Rastafari and having a feeling and sense of security, where I understand what to do and what not to do. Like I wouldn’t have a video with guys dancing around in briefs in their video, cause that would have offended them. They know I wouldn’t do something like that. Let’s say that there’s a guy somewhere who is a hot director and doesn’t understand them as being rastas. Like, “OK, let’s have dancing girls on top of cars” and they would be like “No!”. So we have a vibe together and call each other for years and we bless up each other and we have our establishment as Rastafari. Just to extend on that I would be walking up the road and meet a Rastaman I’ve never seen before, whether white, black, chiney, whatever, we’re gonna hail each other and say how you doing and blessed. So that in itself also creates a bond, you know?
What advice would you give to up-and-coming video/ film directors?
I would say get knowledge in everything. ‘Cause you’re gonna need it one day. And just be yourself, and don’t try hard. Be yourself and get knowledge. Trust me, whatever the knowledge is, you’re gonna need it in the field that you are in.
