LOEFAH VALENTINE – NEW YORK CITY – WIN TICKETS

February 2nd, 2012 by bigup (4) Blog, Music

This one goes out to New Yorkers. Time is coming really close to the most loved but mostly hated holiday in the world – Valentines Day. Some of you want to shrug and stop reading right now, but hold on! Listen up! There’s a special… very special way to spend pre-Valentines night February 13th, regardless of weather you have that special someone buying you drinks. Because you’ll have that special someone playing ‘records’ for you – the one and only Loefah. It’s going down at Cielo’s finest night – Deep Space. You can stay till the end to see François K, and then just sleep through the next day. Perfect, right?

What’s even better, you can win two pairs of passes. Which does NOT need to remind you that you have noone to bring with you, it’s just the way we give away tickets. In couples. Bleh…Anyway, give us a shout in the comment box and we’ll pick a winner in a couple of days.

For the rest of you not in the Big Apple, the show will be streamed live via Pecussion Lab radio.
For a taste of what you might hear on Feb 13, here’s the recording of Loefah’s set from DMZ night at Outlook Festival 2011.

A.CHAL – NEW VIDEO AND DOWNLOAD

February 2nd, 2012 by bigup (0) Blog, Music

Remember that kid A.Chal we were raving about on our Facebook page? He was dope, right? But wait for it… He’s got a new video on YouTube and “Gotham Mix1″ up for download. Very dark, very cinematic, and heavy. Heavier than the heavy you’re used to. Wow…

Here’s what Alejandro Chal has to say about his gooning music: “Gotham Mix1″ is the first of many mixes to come, that give insight on me, and, my inspirations. This is not on Ballroom Riots.”

WHO STOLE “NATALIA’S SONG?”

January 31st, 2012 by bigup (1) Blog

So the “Natalia’s Song” saga continues. It started about a year ago with the accusation towards Zomby from a Russian singer (the winner of “StarFactory 4″ reality show) Irina Dubtsova, who claimed the vocals Zomby used in the song belong to her. Today we’ve got this fella Reark claiming that the loop was stolen from him, and the vocals are actually of his Russian girlfriend Natalia covering the original song. Reark lists the chronology of the incident and puts up his ‘original’ track on SoundCloud.

If you have a minute or 30 to spare, go on and read the comments roll to find out all kinds of funfacts about everyone from Zomby to Natalia. As for the song… we prefer the original.

LORDAMERCY – NEW DJ ADLIB VIDEO

January 31st, 2012 by bigup (0) Blog, Music

German-based DJ Adlib, a member of the Noisy Stylus turntablist crew since 1999, and a producer in the circle of drum & bass pioneer Danny Breaks and various hip hop outfits including Stones Throw’s MED and Rawkus’ Dynas, and basically a hot living legend, has put together a very bizarre video for his new beat “Lordamercy”. If the directors cut is too much for you, then at the very least just listen to the beat, or read the interview James Pants did with Adlib for Red Bull Music Academy to dive deeper into the man’s world.

WEEKND REFIX FOR THE WEEKEND

January 29th, 2012 by bigup (0) Art, Blog, Music

If you don’t know about Those That Know – the eclectic trio comprised of producer J. Hoskins and rappers-singers Tuuobillion and Saint Kay – this weekend is the right time to get to know. If before we liked them for their hot beany-hats, there’s a better reason now. They have refixed “Loft Music” by The Weeknd, and it’s great, which is so rare in this age of a bazillion bad Weeknd remixes. So hit play to listen and watch the video (which is pretty awesome as well) and get ready for more, because a little birdy told us there are three great refixes coming up from Those That Know very soon.

HATCHA – HEADPHONE HIGHLIGHTS

January 23rd, 2012 by bigup (0) Blog, Music

Red Bull Music Academy Radio just released a show by Hatcha, who’s obviously a don, which takes us on a history dive with Hatcha’s favorite tunes from all the way back, when “dubstep” was cool even as a word. Gems, absolute classics here from the likes of Loefah, Distance, Horsepower Productions, El-B, Mala, Skream, Benga, Benny Ill etc… This can be a textbook for Dubstep. Thank you Prof. Hatcha.
